Quiet Hours: Quiet hours are from 10 pm - 7 am. Have fun and enjoy, but do so respectfully :)

House Rules:Please follow these rules out of respect for the cottage and our neighbors:
No smoking, no pets.
No large gatherings or parties.
No campers or tents on the property.
Noise levels: Most people enjoy a fire pit at night and no one minds the sound of people having fun, but please respect our neighbors as the evening wears on.

🗑 Trash & Recycling: Place all trash in the large blue container by the road. Pick up is early Monday morning.

Fruit Flies: We have “fruit fly catchers” that look like tiny apples on the counters (as well as ant traps) to prevent the breeding and nuisance of fruit flies. Please leave these out, and be sure and keep fruit put away. Please do not leave empty beer cans/wine bottles out, as these attract the flies.

Grill: A charcoal grill is located on the deck. An electric lighter is located under the grill. To use grill pile charcoal on the metal loop and then plug it in for about 10 minutes. Be very careful where you put it to cool off as it is extremely hot! The tools under the grill are for use with the hot coals. Barbecue cooking tools are in the drawer below the oven. If you like to grill with the top on, be sure to open the vents both in the top and bottom of the grill. We try to keep the silver ash bucket below the grill empty, but if you find it full, it comes off with a twist and the cooled ashes can be left in the woods.

Holding Tanks: Our cabin operates on holding tanks (the small, green caps sticking out of the ground on the roadside). The lack of septic tanks helps to protect the lake. These collect all water used inside the home, which needs to be pumped out at the homeowner’s expense when full. We know you are on vacation, but please try to conserve water when you can please and thank you. Examples: Limit washing machine usage, and please don’t leave faucets running unnecessarily. We strongly encourage use of the outdoor shower, for it is great and drains naturally. Additinally it doesn’t fill the holding tanks.

***If the alarm sounds, please contact us as soon as possible 231-268-0145.

Outdoor Toys: You will find a variety of life jackets in the storage locker next to the deck. (A key is included with the entry door key). In Michigan, all children under 13 MUST have a life jacket on at all times in a boat. In fact, the county sheriff patrols the lake often, so it might just be better for anyone out on the paddle boards to wear a life jacket. Please bring the boards well up onto the shore in the evening and let the life jackets dry out before returning them to the deck box so they don’t get musty.

We provide 2 paddle boards, 1 kayak, and 1 lily pad! We hope you'll make use of them all!

***PLEASE, every night, make sure these items are placed back on their rack. Please also ensure the lily pad is tied around the tree (as you found it at check-in), to ensure they do not blow or float away!

Fire Pit: A fire outside by the lake is one of our favorite evening activities, so feel free to take advantage of it. We’ve left some wood for you either next to the pit or next to the shed by the parking area. This is hard wood and needs kindling to get started. If you find you need more wood, many local gas stations and nearby neighbors provide bundles for purchase! At times there are fire advisories in effect during the warmer months so please keep the flames low and make sure the fire is completely out before you pack it in for the evening. Please never leave the fire unattended!

Fireplace: This may be the last thing you're thinking about in the summer, but in the cooler weather you may want a fire indoors. Use the wood as mentioned above. Be sure the slide below the mantle is all the way to the RIGHT to open the damper. There is no need to close it when you are finished. PLEASE keep fires small and do not let the flames get above the top of the firebox. This will help prevent chimney fires

Outdoor Shower: We hope you'll enjoy our outdoor shower! You will find shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower for use. This is also a great option to clean off before coming inside for the night! We do ask that if you use the shower, to please ensure the water is fully shut off when you're done!

Swimming: Be very careful when entering the lake via the ramp. We recommend entering the water from the ladder on the dock, as the ramp gets VERY slippery. Wearing “beach shoes” is recommended for better traction and to protect your feet from the sticks that continually appear on the lake bottom. Swimmers Itch is present in all the Northern Michigan lakes, but a few simple precautions can save you from its misery. I've attached a brief explanation and what to do to avoid it. PLEASE don't feed the waterfowl as they are the source for swimmers itch.

Flowers: Not required, but we would appreciate if you could give the flowers a little drink every few days. Thank you!

Chair Cushions: The chair cushions are also located in the storage locker next to the deck (if not already left on the chairs for you). Please put them back in the locker for the evening as it often rains overnight without warning.

Door Wall Curtains: Just a quick note. They are not intended for regular use. (We only close them when we shut down for the winter). If you want them closed, you’ll need to pull them very slowly from the top, for they do not slide easily. Sorry if this is an inconvenience.

Dining Room Light Switch: Located in the kitchen behind the paper towel rack.

Washer/Dryer: Be sure to empty the lint filter before using the dryer. We find the highest heat setting works best. The washer is not intended for heavy use, but works great for the little things.

☕️ Coffee: You'll find a full coffee & tea station on the counter in the kitchen. There are coffee grounds, tea, creamer, sugar, and coffee filters for your use above the coffee maker!

🍴 Kitchen: Cooking oils and spices (and salt & pepper) can be found in the cupboards!

Pillows & Blankets: Extra pillows and blankets can be found in the closets of each bedroom.

📋 Before checking out we ask that you:

  • Please load the dishwasher and run it.

  • Place all used towels in the bathrooms.

  • Remove all food from the refrigerator & freezer.

  • If you have extra trash/ recycling, please take it to the appropriate bins located outside.

  • Double check to make sure you have not left any personal items in the property.

  • Close and lock all doors & windows.

🔒Check-Out: Check-out time is 10:00 am. Our cleaning service will arrive at the house promptly at 10:00 am. There are more check-out instructions listed below. Please message us 24 hours prior to your check out to request a late checkout. Late checkout without approval will be subject to fee.
